OPINION

Surely enough, justice is blind.

There has been discussion here lately of the suicide death of 14 year old Amherst, New York student Jamey Rodemeyer, who was bullied and taunted to his death by a couple of his classmates. A week after her brother's suicide, Jamey's sister was taunted by chants from the same students at school dance, repeating "You're better off dead! We're glad you're dead!" Classy kids.

After considering the matter of Jamey's death, the Amherst NY Chief of Police has decided not to prefer charges against the bullies. Either the evidence or the chief's will to take action is too thin.

Students of this age cannot be expelled. But school superintendent Scott Martzloff announced that one or more of the students have been temporarily suspended.

At least one student of a group of taunting students was suspended for the school dance chants. That will teach him.

So in Amherst, you can't chant rude thoughts, but bullying a child to his death will get you sent to the vice principal's office. There, now.

Evil wins this round.
